Ford pintos design and production
Ford motors company, manufactured Ford Pinto cars in 1971 – 1989 which was followed by the Hatchback, Wagon, Two-door sedan. Ford Pinto was marketed in the US.Ford Pinto model was against:
- Chevrolet Vega
- Gremlin,
- Datsun,
- Volkswagen.
This was great competition on marketing, but Ford Pinto did so good as it was marketed.
Being the president of ford company Lee Iacocca, in 1971 he needed a car model that weighed less than 2,000 pounds,the same time it was not much expensive pricing $2,000.
He gave the contract to the team that used to design cars and style the cars as it was needed.
The designers took their part and designed as it was planned, after a number of months ford introduced a two-door sedan which was lower on its price to $18850 after encountering somebody obstacles.
Over 100,000 units were sold by January 1971 as more and more productions were running.
Later on pinto produced more and hundreds of cars.
Why was the recall of Ford Pinto initiated?
After a well-developed production, more customers came in. A case was had after an explosion of Ford Pinto’ occurred and lead to many injuries and deaths to people, it was said that the explosion occurred due to the fuel tank design or the fuel system design that wasn’t designed properly.
An argument began and the manufacturing company had great debates.Things became more serious about ford pinto. It became a big disaster to all the users and to other people even who never used ford pintos model.
Ford pinto caused serious body harms and death emerged in large numbers. The company began not implementing new designs, though; they had new designs to be accessed to prevent the explosions, it would have charged $11 in each and every car. Due to the introduction of these new designs investigation began and it was found that reductions of death rates were less than 180.
The main problem of ford pintos was the fuel tank design which was poorly done while in production. The (NHTSA) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration commanded the ford pintos to recall mostly because of the fire incidents that brought many deaths.
Plastic protective shield were provided by the ford company after initiating the recall, this plastic shield was to be installed between the differential bolts and the fuel tank, to break the rear end collision more resistance were made by the plastic prevention shield.

- While Lily Gray and Richard Grimshaw were traveling using a 1972 ford pintos car, another car using the same way they used traveling at a speed of 30 miles per hour, struck their car on the way. Lily Gray was killed and Richard Grimshaw was left with serious injuries this was caused by the fire which was brought by the impact.

The company apologized for all the incidents that happened and was caused by the pinto cars, the company compensated most of the users who underwent all the incidents’ after the government demanded them to do so.
