More commonly, it causes a fever, fatigue, convulsions and aches. Approximately 1600 people become sick with listeria and 260 deaths are caused by it annually.
More than half of Listeria infections occur among adults over the age of 65. If you shop at Trader Joe’s or have a loved one who does and is over the age of 65, be sure to double check for any of the contaminated products in their freezer. Listeria could be a serious problem for those with a weakened immune system.
Freezers should always be kept at 0 degrees Fahrenheit to help prevent any Listeria infections. If you purchased any of the affected products, throw them away immediately or bring it back to your local Trader Joe’s. They are issuing full refunds to affected customers. All products in stores were thrown away once the issue was realized, so you can feel safe in returning to your Trader Joe’s store.
