Wildfires and the massiveness of them
Wildfires are fires that start outdoor and are known to go wild destroying everything around them. Wildfires are also commonly known as forest fire or bushfires. Wildfires are possible in every corner of mother earth except let’s say the continent Antarctica. The wildfires are a threat to the wildlife and the civilization alike as the rapid fire increases in any direction engulfing everything that comes in the way. Given the ability of disturbing the whole ecosystem, wildfires must support with a contingency plan so that rectifying measures could be taken on time. The places must be adequately prepared to handle the aftermath as well.
Wildfire effects the U.S.
Wildfires are blazes that are fueled by dry brush, wind, and the weather. Each year on an average, more than 100,000 wildfires are reported which are known to affect 4 million acres of land. The speed of the wildfire could reach up to 14 miles an hour causing damage to everything in the way- trees, homes, wildlife, humans etc. Careless acts on the part of the humans lead to massive fires which the forest is more than happy to flame. The light sparks are enough to ignite the whole of the forest. Lightning, burning, cigarettes, hot winds, and sometimes direct sun heat are the reason for the humongous fire.
Emergency Management
Wildfire emergency plan has four phases- mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery. The steps are interconnected and aimed at reducing the loss of life and property ensuring that everything comes out safe from the disaster. The plan was developed by Firewise Communities USA Recognition Program. United state has 40 states that have communities recognized members from the Firewise Community program which includes state of California, Colorado, Arizona, Oklahoma, Nevada, North Carolina and Texas. The North Carolina Forest Services (NCFS) emphasis on having the people of North Carolina follows rules in order to avoid man-made fire possibilities.
When to Evacuate
Evacuate the place as soon as the fire is seen growing. The smoke in the atmosphere and the growing fire is a signal enough; don’t wait for the authorities to order an evacuation, this way you will help clear the road congestion. Keep an active device to be connected with the authorities, such as a working radio or phone. This will allow you to hear announcements from emergency evacuation team if you are away from them. Also, the areas of a temporary assembly before one is transferred to a safe location, are heard clearly and effectively. The important thing to keep in mind is the escape route which must be taken, this depends largely on the fire’s location, behaviors, terrains, winds etc.
